I received Lisa Kroulik's Emotional Assault: Recognizing an Abusive Partner's Bag of Tricks in paperback directly from Lisa herself for review purposes.
I am married to the love of my life, my best friend in the whole world but that was not always the case. I had grown up in a house where fighting, screaming, throwing things, manipulation, and anger were a common daily routine. So when I married my first husband when I was 18 years old, we'll call him "R", and he would scream and break things, call me names, and manipulate me by leaving and coming back time and time again. I justified his behavior by saying "this is just the way marriage is". One day 3 years into the marriage I decided I would rather be unmarried and that is the way I stayed until I married my wonderful husband Edward 9 years later.
So back to the review. I wish I had received this book when I was 17. I would never had married "R" and my life might be very different right now. This book is very enlightened and explains things in a way that it is very relate able. Lisa Kroulik is a gifted writer that I hope to see much more of in the future.
